Jacob Bond I'On (1782-1859), served as the mayor of Sullivan's Island, president of the South Carolina Senate and was a War of 1812 hero.

The planter and U.S. Army and militia officer was described at his death as a "representative of the true Carolina gentleman." He is buried in the family cemetery within I'On, 1⁄2 mile north of I'On Square.

The I'On Company is proud to recognize the civility and virtue of Jacob Bond I'On by naming our neighborhood in his honor.
